The downtown is the only shared public space in an extremely divided community. they hold a parade on there extremely wide main road, but other than that, the center does not have much life to it yet.

The HOK planning sector run charrette focused on this downtown, where there were no major waves, because of it's back bay location only flooding from the storm surge. The plan was to move first responders out of the floodplain, so that in case of a hurricane, the fire department, police department, and city hall would be able to do buisness without as much of a delay. To do this there is a proposed land swap between the city and other land oweners, that would relocate some buisnesses inot the floodplain, but using elevated galleries to minimize damage to storefronts. The maximum density proposed for downtown Moss Point is a small T5, so that there can be sufficient density for a urban center, without overwhelming the surrounding community. They rerouted and landscaped Main street while adding parking, allowing it to carry the same capacity as before, but seem smaller, and less overbearing.

Money and support from HOK leadership & the Moss Point community has been in great supply. The SmartCode is being finalized, and they are moving on to their last meeting with MDOT commisioner Wayne Brown regarding Main street
